Red tea

The infusion of red tea is rich and mellow . Honey or cocoa scents can be present in some quality red teas .

These are Chinese teas which undergo a long fermentation for the leaves to oxidize and darken. They are referred to as red by the Chinese (Hong Cha) for the color of the infusion, opposing to the green color of green teas.

In the West, they may be marketed under the name of black teas from China. The term sometimes refers to red tea in some shops a plant name rooibos from South Africa, whose color is red twigs and has nothing to do with tea.
